INCLUSION OF TEAM
Less Than £lOOO To Be Raised
Less than £lOOO will have to be raised to send the New Zealand hockey team to the Olympic Games, said the chairman of the New Zealand Hockey Association’s management committee (Mr J. G. Leggat) when asked to comment on the inclusion of two members of the hockey team in the list of category A athletes for the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome.
The association proposed to send a team of 13 plus a manager and this called for the raising of £10,122. Now that two members of the team had been included in the list of category A athletes, the hockey association would need to raise only £8676 and most of this was in hand or had been promised, said Mr Leggat.
“Naturally I am very pleased the team has been included and no doubt the hockey players throughout the Dominion will see that any balance required will be forthcoming in good time," he said. ’’The raising of finance has called for a considerable effort and the response has been very gratifying. We had always hoped we would be able to send a team to Rome since the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, 1 am sure the team will do well,” he said.
