SUGGESTION TO SELECTORS
Reasons Given For Rejection
(New Zeatana Press Association, WELLINGTON, May 16.
Money In itself is not a means of entry to the Olympic Games. This is made clear by the New Zealand Olympic selection panel in its report to tonight’s meeting of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association.
“It has been suggested to the panel,” the report said, “that there should be a representation of sports affiliated to the association, regardless of the ranking of nominees or because money was likely to be available for their expenses (to the Olympic Games in Rome).
“The panel had to disregard these representations, first for the reason that in its opinion the association’s qualifications were not complied with and, second, that money in itself is not a means of entry to the Olympic Games.
“If it were, it could well happen that a relatively wealthy sport could send a number of nominees of indifferent calibre, while a less well-endowed sport might be unable to provide the finance for a top-class performer.”
