APPEAL TO N.Z. CHURCHES
Relief Work In South Africa
The National Council of Churches in New Zealand has been asked from two sources to assist in an appeal for relief work in South Africa. The World Council of Churches, which has sent a sum of money to the Christian Council in South Africa, has made an appeal and the Rt. Rev. Ambrose Reeves, the Bishop of Johannesburg, who flew to London when he believed he was in danger of being arrested for his outspokenness against apartheid, has also appealed. The World Council of Churches has sent the Rev. Dr. Bilheinier to South Africa to report on the relationship between the churches and peoples there. The Dutch Reformed Church, which supports apartheid, is a member of the World Council of Churches, but is not a member of the Christian Council in South Africa, which is similar to the National Council of Churches in New Zealand. All the member churches of that council are opposed to apartheid.
