The Rugby Tour

Sir,—D S. Sheppbrd has decided not to' play against the South African' touring' cricket team' in England this yeaf as a protest D. C. S. Compton is “horrified” at Sheppard's decision. He said: “If Mr Sheppard is doing this because of what is happening in South Africa, I think he is completely wrong. Politics should never be mixed with cricket” The meaning of "politics” as applied to "self” is; sagacious, prudent expedient scheming, crafty. As applied to a “body” it is the science and art of government; political affairs of life. It is also said politics should not be mixed with Christianity. The meaning of Christianity is: “The Christian faith; doctrines of Christ and his Apostles; a Chistian religeous system.” Where does Christianity fit in? It is Easter Week. Can we give this some thought?—Yours etc., AMY MORGAN April, 10, 1960.

Sir,—Will those who signed the large petition to the Government believing that Maoris and Pakeha stand equal in Rugby, as in other things in New Zealand, stand by their signatures to the extent of refusing to attend any future All Black Rugby Match in this country, if the Union persists in taking a falsely called New Zealand team to South Africa? This is the only practical way to show all concerned that racial discrimination in this, or any other country, does not pay.— Yours etc., INASMUCH April 10, 1960.
