FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT
Situation.—A deep tropical depression centred to the north-east of Northland is expected to move south. A belt of high pressure lies across the South Island. Forecast: z Canterbury.—Light or moderate variable winds, mainly north-easterlies; some cloudy areas about the coasts, otherwise mainly fair; moderate temperatures. Outlook: mainly fair. West Coast.—Light or moderate variable winds; fair, with moderate day temperatures. Outlook: mainly fair. Nelson.—Fresh easterlies outside Tasman Bay, otherwise light or moderate variable winds; mainly cloudy; some scattered light rain later in day. Outlook: mainly fair. Marlborough.—East to south-east winds, fresh, possibly strong, in exposed coastal places, otherwise moderate; cloudy skies; some scattered light rain developing, especially in the more eastern areas, but probably becoming more general later. Outlook: occasional showers.
