THROWN FROM CAR
Three Men In Hospital Three West Coast men were injured, one seriously, on the Main North road, near the Hurunui bridge late on Saturday evening when they were - hurled from their car after it had got out of control. The car left the road and rolled over at least three times. A fourth man, who was still in the car after it came to rest, suffered only minor injuries and shock. The car was very extensively damaged. The three men, who were admitted to hospital, all live at Blackball. They are: Andrew Kennedy, who suffered head and chest injuries and shock and is on the seriously-ill list; John Dodds, who suffered head and leg injuries and shock; and Edward Hay, who suffered chest and leg injuries and shock. The fourth man, William Fisher, of Nelson Creek, was treated at the casualty department of the Christchurch Hospital. The four men were picked up by the Culverden St. John ambulance. At Saltwater Creek, 20 miles north of Christchurch, the ambulance was met by one from Christchurch, and two of the injured men were transferred. The accident occurred about 10.30 p.m. about two miles south of the Hurunui bridge on a slight bend on an incline. A motorist going to the West Coast arrived soon after the accident. He went to the home of Mr F. K. Forrester, at Hawarden, and the latter telephoned Dr. T. B. H. Strain, of Hawarden, and the St John ambulance. Dr. Strain arrived at the accident about 10.45 p.m. and attended to the injured men. The Christchurch Hospital reported last evening that Mr Kennedy was still on the seriously ill list. Mr Dodds’s condition was reported as comfortable, and Mr Hay’s as fairly satisfactory.
