STEADY RAIN AT BLUFF
Water Shortage Relieved (New Zealana Press Association) INVERCARGILL, March 27. Heavy rain, which fell all day today and was still falling late tonight, could spell the turning point in Bluff's extreme water shortage. Although very little water is yet running into the reservoir, tanks are filling rapidly. The parched topsoil on the catchment area will have to become saturated before the run-off becomes steady. High hopes for continued rain are, strangely enough, held because of the scheduled arrival this week of two ships the Waipawa and the Waiwera. When these two vessels visited the port at this time last year it rained steadily all the time, ending the water shortage then existing. Army and borough council tankers continued to cart water from Greenhills all day today. A council truck was dogged with bad luck suffering one blow-out in the morning and another in the afternoon. On Saturday, an Army tanker was wrecked when it was involved in a collision with a taxi at Greenhills.
