Auckland won five of the six second-day matches against Otago on Saturday to retain the Wilding Shield with a win by 10 matches to 2 Auckland led 5-1 after the first day. Results (Auckland names first):— First Day Singles.—P. G. Nicholls, beat T. Withers. 6-3, 6-3; K. H. Long beat D. Shaw. 6-4 6-0; W. H. Ward beat M. Simons, 6-3, 6-0; R. J. Keenan beat P. Vesty. 7-5, 6-3. Doubles.—Nicholls and Long beat Simons and Vesty, 6-0, 6-1; Ward and Keenan lost to Withers and Shaw, 6-4, 4-6, 4-6. Second Day Singles.—Nicholls beat Shaw. 6-2, 6-2; Long beat Withers, 6-4, 6-2; Ward lost to Vesty, 6-3, 5-7, 3-6; Keenan beat Simons. 4-6, 6-4, 8-6.
