WAREHOUSE FIRE
Six Engines Attend Six units, four from the Central brigade and one each from St Albans and Sockburn, answered a call on Saturday to a fire in a warehouse occupied by a number of firms at 144 Lichfield street The alarm was given at 5.55 p.m Dense clouds of smoke were coming from the building when the firemen arrived, and breathing apparatus had to be used in locating the seat of the fire. Although a good deal of damage was done by smoke, the damage to the building and contents by fire was not great. The 29 firemen who attended had the outbreak under control in about 15 minutes. ’ Among the firms which occupy the building are Jamieson. Anderson, and Co., Atkinson Bros., R Powley and Co., (Canterbury) Ltd., and A. N. Innes, Ltd. Other Fires An oven fire at a property , occupied by James Alexander Phillips at 71 Kingsley street was , attended by a unit from the Central brigade at 8.40 p.m. on Saturi day. At 1.38 p.m. yesterday a unit from the Central brigade attended a chimney fire at the property oi Dennis Edmonds at 486 Hereford street.
