PRISONER CAUGHT
At Large For Four Weeks

The last of thte five prisoners who escaped from the Auckland Police Station cells four weeks ago was receptured in Hamilton on Saturday. He was attending a picture theatre and offered no resistance when arrested.
The prisoner, Leonard Edwin Evans, aged 21, had been in Hamilton for some days It was discovered by the Hamilton C. 1.8. on Friday that he had engaged a single man’s room in a lodging-house in Beale street, just across the river from the centre of the city. The police raided the house on Friday afternoon, but Evans was out and he did not return.
A former acquaintance told the police he thought he had seen Evans entering the Vogue Theatre at Frankton on Saturday night. Detective D. Woodhouse and Constable J. M. Scott went to the theatre, had the man pointed out to them, recognised him immediately and arrested him.
Evans will appear in the Magistrate’s Court in Hamilton tomorrow
