AVON CLUB’S ROAD RACES
Cameron Wins 12Mile Event
Riders who competed In the national amateur championship! at Auckland last Week took part in road race! conducted by the Avon Amateur Cycling Club during the week-end. One of these, T. Cameron (Christchurch), proved the strongest in the final sprint in the three-lap race. After the first lap the field had split up, the leaders comprising Cameron, R. Fowler, N. Stuart, B. Berry and W. Thorpe. These five steadily drew away from the remainder of the field and in the final sprint Cameron pulled away early and held on for a comfortable win from the young Papanui junior, W. Thorpe. Results:— _ Twelve Miles Scratch Race.—T. Cameron (Christchurch), 32min 27sec 1; W. Thorpe (Papanui), 32min 2; N. Stuart (Avon), 32min 28.4 sec, 3; R. Fowler (Avon), 32min 29sec, 4; B. Berry (Christchurch), 32min 30sec, 5; J. Clemence (Papanui), 35min 41sec 6. Sealed handicap: Stuart (30sec), 31min 58.4 sec, 1; Berry (15sec), 32min 15sec, 2; Cameron (scr), 32min 27sec, 3.
