Training Of Adolescents
Sir, —Miss J- P. Crosher, headmistress of St. Margaret’s College, in addressing the Mothers’ Union, has indeed spoken words well worth listening to. The home training of all adolescents is of paramount importance because the home is the foundation of the nation. You will readily agree that character can be gauged by the type of books a man reads. and educating the child’s mind on a literary diet of comics is a poor foundation upon which to build either home or nation. I heartily endorse that films and radio create mental laziness. Worse still—television. The problem of sex training is of the utmost importance ; the average parents neglect it. I congratulate Miss Crosher on her excellent address and thank you for printing it.—Yours, etc., 8 G. J. WATSON, (Branch Temperance Secretary, Australasian Temperance Society.) March 2, 1960.
Sir,—Miss J. P. Crosher’s advice to mothers on their duties to their daughters should be kept by all mothers in whatever engagement book or cookery book they may intend to hand on to their own granddaughters. Seldom have authorities publicly put this behaviour guidance so precisely. Far too many parents appear too busy earning money, and enjoying it to spare time for the instruction of their children. Might some equally wise counsel be prepared and published for the guidance of fathers so that boys and youths are not ignorant of courteous behaviour and restraints?—Yours, etc BEHAVIOUR PATTERNS. March 2, 1960.
