Smoking On Duty

Sir,—l noticed in this morning’s issue that a taxi driver was fined £1 10s for smoking while carrying a passenger. I read in the same paper that it was an offence for bus drivers to do likewise. Am I right? On the Hillsborough and Radley buses some of the drivers seem to think they have every right to smoke, to the annoyance of passengers sitting inside the door. I notice they put out their half-smoked cigarettes when they get to Sydenham. Why?—Yours, etc., BE FAIR. March 2, 1960.
