NATIONAL PARK RANGERS
Mountain Training For Rescue Work Rangers from four national parks throughout New Zealand will be given tuition in hign climbing and all aspects of mountain work by the chief ranger for the Mount Cook National Park (Mr Harry Ayres) at an instruction course in the Tatman glacier and Mount Cook regions next month. The course is designed to equip the rangers for search and rescue operations in the event of mountain accidents in the parks in which they are employed. It is also a practical step in the park boards’ policy to give rangers as varied a training as possible in the many fields allied to national park supervision. The party, which will comprise rangers from the Fiordland, Egmont, Tongariro, and Arthur's Pass National Parks, will be based at the Malte Brun hut, 5700 ft up in the Tasman valley, during the training course from March 2 to 9.
