CARNIVAL FOR AXEMEN

The biggest axemen’s carnival to have been held in Christchurch will be staged at the New Zealand Industries Fair on its final day, March 12.

Leading axemen and'sawyers from the West’ Coast are among the big list competitors, and a big attraction will be members of the team which has been chosen to represent New Zealand in the chopping contest at the Sydney Royal Show. Contests will include a 141 n underhand chop, 12in standing, 12in underhand and 161 n two-cut sawing. In the evening there will be an interprovincial teams’ relay in which the best axemen in the country will chop, and a 16in underhand chop.
