Conference Remits On Pensions

(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, February 14.

Remits seeking monetary benefits for wives of veterans of the 9th and 10th Contingents and war veterans’ allowances for these members came before the thirtyseventh annual conference of the South African War Veterans’ Association which opened in Oamaru.

A remit that the Government be asked to reciprocate veterans’ pensions with the British Government was also before the meeting. It was decided that all three remits should be referred to the executive. Officers elected were: Patron, the Governor-General (Lord Cobham); president, Mr R. Partridge; vice-presidents, Messrs A. Hayes, A. Ferguson, D. Wilson, W. E. Linkhorn, A. J. Harper, E. W. Cornford, F. W. Bergman, I. D. Parsons, A. H. Kirkham, A. E. Sadler; executive committee, Messrs R. Hayes, F. W. Bergman, I. Byfield, H. Peek, A. Southcombe, E. J. Davies, R. A. Green; secretary, Mr J. A. McGregor, M.8.E.; treasurer, Mr D. Cossor. The retiring president, Mr A. Logan, was presented with a gold badge. It was decided to hold the next conference at Nelson.
