GLENORA PARK SOLD
Old Takanini Property
Glenora Park, a 55-acre property which for the last 20 odd years has been occupied by the Takanini trainer, F. Smith, has been sold. Glenora Park was one of the oldest racing establishments at Takanini. The purchaser is Korma Mills of Auckland. It is understood the price exceeded £30.000. Glenora Park is adjacent to the racecourse where all the training is done at Takanini. The property has changed hands many times over the years to racing interests. It was there that the great sire Soult stood when Glenora Park was occupied by the Walters family, F. Davis enjoyed great success as a trainer for the late Elliot Davis when he occupied Glenora Park and his successor, the late J. T. Jamieson, also rose to head the leading trainers’ list in the Dominion. When Jamieson moved to Australia he leased the property to the trotting trainer, F. J. Smith, and it was later sold to its present occupier. The sale of • Glenora Park by Smith does not mean the end of the training partnership between him and his son. They are negotiating for a smaller property at Takanini and there is no talk of retirement by either.
