RACING Picright To Start At Hokitika Today
A late decision has been made to take the Riccarton hack Picright to Hokitika for the Westland Racing Club’s Centennial meeting, which will open today. Picright left last night by rail for Greymouth, where he will arrive early this morning. C. Clydesdale will ride him in the Goldsborough Hack Handicap today. Barr’s Riccarton team, has had only three races, and at his latest start, at Amberley, he was a winner over six furlongs. Clydesdale also rode the Pictavia gelding at Amberley. Riccarton stables will not be strongly represented today, and Canterbury’s strongest prospects in the main races will be gallopers from South Canterbury. Beau Revere, W. D. Skelton’s mount, is the ruling favourite for the Michael Keenan Memorial, the first leg of the T.A.B. double. Beau Revere is trained at Orari by L. H. Pratt. The Washdyketrained Starwyn will probably be at cramped odds in the second leg, the Lake Matheson Hack Handicap. Starwyn ran her best race for some time for a second to Tickled Pink at Riccarton last Saturday. Like Beau Revere, Starwyn will appreciate the easing in the ground caused yesterday by showers at Hokitika. The club will also run a double for course patrons on the Ross Stakes and the Franz Josef Hack Handicap.
