U.K. BUTTER MARKET

Danes Reduce Price

(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, January 18.

The Danes have announced a cut of 20s per cwt in the price of their butter, to take effect next week. New Zealand l)as re " duced the price of cheese by 20s per cwt. The cut in the price of Danish butter, which will bring it to the same as New Zealand—4los per cwt landed—is reported to be due to reduced consumption in Britain, a “drying up” of the Danes’ Continental markets, and a surplus of Danish production over sales last week of 300 tons. No butter price change was announced by New Zealand or Australia, but sections of the trade think a reduction cannot be long delayed. The retail trade is now experiencing the usual period of “January blues”—slow sales and reduced consumption. N.Z. Cheese Now 281 s

The price of New Zealand finest white cheese will now be 281 s per cwt instead of 301 s. This is the first change for three months. It is due to various influences including heavy shipments from New Zealand and shipments from the United States and South Africa during December. These were attracted by the high price but sales have been slow. In addition bigger shipments are expected from a number of sources during the coming year.
