AIR TERMINAL OPENING
Visit By Big Planes Sought
Arrangements for the official opening of the air terminal building at the Christchurch airport were discussed by the City Council’s airport committee yesterday, and the chairman (Cr. A. R. Guthrey) said later that everything was well in hand for the ceremony on February 2. The Gov-ernor-General (Lord Cobham) will perform the opening ceremony. The committee is negotiating with Pan American Airways to send a Boeing 707 jet airliner to Christchurch for the occasion. Qantas may also send a Boeing and there is a chance that a Comet of 8.0.A.C. may also come. The Dutch airline K.L.M. has promised to send a Super Constellation.
