DROWNING GIRL SAVED
Rescue Made By Schoolboy
(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, January 19. A 13-year-old schoolboy saved his five-year-old cousin from drowning in the Waikato river yesterday afternoon Douglas Sale, of Tisdale street, was sitting in a friend’s canoe on the river when he saw a girl floating towards him. He reached her with the canoe, managed to pull her aboard and made for the shore and a neighbour’s house Douglas ran with the gtrl. Denise Smith of Tauranga. over his shoulder head down Water began pouring out of her mouth and she began to scream. Denise’s mother heard the screaming and ran to help. Denise had been paddling about 100 yards from Douglas. Her mother thinks she must have become entangled in weeds, and in struggling to get clear of them got out of her depth.
