FIVE YOUTHS CHARGED

Swastikas Found On Building (A'ew Zealand Press Association/ WELLINGTON, January 15. As a sequel to the swastikapainting incidents at Victoria University last night, five youths appeared before Mr J. S. Hanna, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court today at Wellington. The accused were: Francis Weir, aged 21, a window cleaner; Nicholas Joseph Walsh, aged 17. window cleaner; Leslie Morris Green, aged 21, drainlayer; Graeme Lindsay Guthrie, aged 23, workman; John Christopher Walsh, aged 18, window cleaner. They were each charged with stealing a quantity of paint and brushes, disorderly behaviour in view of a public place, and painting a swastika on the University building without the permission of the university authorities. Weir and Nicholas Walsh were also charged with obstructing a police constable in the course of his duty and John Walsh was also charged with escaping from custody and with converting a police car worth £l4OO No pleas were entered. The accused were remanded on bail of £5O in each case until January 22.
