(New Zealand Press Association)
PALMERSTON N„ Jan. 13. Mrs J. Bronte, of Trentham, ( collected £3251 9s 6d from the * winning on J course double com- , bination of King’s Fire and 1 Mutual at the Pahiatua Racing • Club’s meeting at Woodville ( today. • The dividend was declared as £6502 19s for £l, but being the only person holding a 10s win- ' ning ticket, Mrs Bronte received ; half that amount, comprising the ; total pool. Mrs Bronte’s only reason for taking King’s Fire was that it , was No. 19 in the race card. Nos , 16 and 19 are her favourite numbers and she invariably takes them in doubles. She had £5 worth of tickets on King’s Fire and spread the 10 10s tickets out on all the second leg runners except one which she had to leave out, there being 11 runners. The one she did not put a ticket on was unplaced. She became the sole winner.
Mrs Bronte invests quite freely on doubles. Her win today was easily her biggest although among others she has collected from are the Golden GalleonHot Drop double at Trentham in January, 1955, which paid £2310 12s and the Prince ArgonGolden Candidate double in October last year, which paid £2536 4s for £l.
In addition to collecting today’s double, Mrs Bronte also had £1 each way on King’s Fire and £2 for a win on Mutual. King’s Fire paid £77 5s and £l7 5s 6d and Mutual paid £3O 12s 6d and £7 Ils 6d. It is understood she was also successful in the second double which returned a dividend of £ll7 13s 6d for £l.
