WOOL SALE AT WANGANUI

Prices Down On SI Rates

(New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, January 13.

At the second main sale of the season in Wanganui today good style wools were in buyers’ favour, and average to inferior wools were easier, when compared with the latest range of prices of South Island wools.

Prices were up 2d per lb. however, when compared with the first main sale of the season held in Wanganui last November. Wools offered today could not be compared with the higher over-all range of quality in the offering at the last New Zealand sale, held at Timaru.

Reporting on today’s sale, the Wanganui Woolbrokers’ Association, in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbrokers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission, said that bidding was keen, with general competition. "Prices, on the whole, were up to 2d per lb better than the Wanganui November rates, but compared with December closing rates of the South Island round of sales, good style wools were in buyers’ favour, and average to inferior wools were easier,” says the report. A catalogue of 32.528 bales was offered to a full bench of buyers. The offering comprised mainly full fleece wools with a proportion of second shear, early shorn, and lambs. The effect of the favourable season was reflected in the general condition of the offering but there was more dust than usual.
