Possible Addington Visit By U.S. Trainer
There is a possibility that Delvin Miller, a leading United States trotting breeder, trainer and driver, will be seen in action at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s summer meeting at Addington on January 1 and 2. The secretary of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club (Mr D. C. Parker) yesterday received a letter from Mr Noel Simpson, of Auckland, who is at present in the United States with the trotter, Durban Chief, and the galloper, Up and Coming, saying that Miller intends making a short trip to Australia and New Zealand towards the end of December. Miller will probably attend the Auckland Cup meeting on December 28 and 31 and fly to Christchurch early on January 1. He is booked to return to the United States on January 3. It was hoped that some owner or trainer would make a horse
available to Miller to drive at Addington, said Mr Simpson in his letter. Miller had driven on all the major tracks in the United States and in Europe and he was keen to have a drive at Addington, the headquarters of trotting in New Zealand. Miller, who owns Meadowlands Farm, in Pennsylvania, one of the most famous trotting studs in the United States, has been one of the leading trainers and drivers there in the last 10 years. He prepared the Australian champion pacer. Ribands, for several wins in the United States, and at present he is training the Westport trotter, Durban Chief.
