Tito ‘Deeply Disappointed’
NIS (Jugoslavia), November 22. President Tito of Jugoslavia told a mass meeting today that he was “deeply disappointed" by Chinese methods in the ChineseIndian border dispute. Addressing a crowd of about l n o.ooo at Nis, Serbia, the Communist leader paid tribute to the “coolness” of the Indian Prime Minister (Mr Nehru). He said Mr Nehru did not allow himself to be provoked by reactionary elements in India, and would find a way to a just agreement President Tito said Jugoslavia was concerned about “neuralgic manifestations” in Algeria, in Suuth America, and in the Middle East as well as on the Chinese Indian border. Referring to a Balkan Powers' conference, as suggested by Rumania, President Tito said he was in favour of such a meeting but not at the moment because there was no realistic basis fc it.
The Jugoslav leader spoke out against what he called the policy of blocs, because of the danger of the world being divided into “spheres of interest” at the expense of the small nations.
