DEPARTMENTAL BUILDING

Mr Nash Replies To Question

(From Our Own Reporter)

WELLINGTON, November 19. The Government has made preliminary investigations into the possibility of providing a departmental building for Christchurch. The Prime Minister (Mr Nash) confirmed this in a written reply to a question asked in Parliament during the session by Mr M. A. Connelly (Government, Riccarton).

Mr Connelly asked Mr Nash if he could state what proposals, if any, were on hand for the provision of a new departmental building ,in Christchurch. If no immediate project was in view, Mp Connelly asked Mr Nash to arrange for action to be taken to provide improved accommodation and working facilties for Government servants and improved facilities for the public there.

“The Government is fully informed of the need for additional accommodation for Government departments in Christchurch and has made preliminary investiga-

tions into the possibility of providing a departmental building there,” said Mr Nash. "However, at the present time, the commitments for expenditure on departmental buildings make It difficult to say when the project will be approved.”
