France To Repay Debt Early
(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) PARIS, November 19. The French Government announced today that it was repaying immediately 200 million dollars of a debt to the International Monetary Fund which does not come due until the 196061 fiscal year. A communique from the Finance Ministry said the repayment would be made today. The communique said the early payment had been decided on because of the improvement in the' French reserve position and the present trend of the market. The debt is part of that incurred by France during 1957 and 1958 when she drew on the International Monetary Fund and had a debt there of 393,700,000 dollars —later reduced to 381,200,000 dollars.
