Ranges Under Ice Named By Russia
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 16. Soviet scientists have given names to two Antarctic mountain ranges and a valley no man has ever seen, Moscow Radio reported today. All three geographic features lie under a thick ice cap in the eastern part of the continent. They were found by studying the echoes of sounds sent through the ice. One mountain range was named after the physicist Boris Golitsyn and the other after the geophysicist Grigoriy Gamburtsev. The valley was named for the mathematician-geophysicist Otto Schmidt. «
