CAPTAIN COOK FILM

N.Z. Cargo Ships Sought “Ths Press' special Service AUCKLAND, November 13. Two small Auckland cargo ships may appear in disguise as Captain Cook’s Endeavour and Discovery in the film on the life of Captain Cook which Mr James A. Fitzpatrick has announced he hopes to make next year. Mr H. L. Rees, a student of the life of Captain Cook, and owner of property in Mercury Bay where the transit of Mercury was observed in 1769 by Cook’s party, said that Mr Fitzpatrick had asked him to make inquiries for ships of about the same size as the Endeavour and the Discovery. These will be converted to resemble as closely as possible the two famous sailing ships. Mr Rees said that he had already found two ships in Auckland. which seemed to meet requirements. Others were believed to be available in the Islands. Part of the filming of the New Zealand section of the production would almost certainly be done next year at Mercury Bay. Mr Fitzpatrick said on his arrival in Auckland last week that the main role of Captain Cook was expected to be taken by Ray Milland. He has close-up photographs of the statue of Captain Cook on the Khyber Pass road brewery of that name as a guide to how the film hero should look.
