Papanui Road Traffic
Sir,— Fifty policemen hunting for the worthless life of the Australian . escaped prisoner. Valuable Christchurch pedestrian lives are in daily risk of being killed crossing Papanui road, especially at St. Albans street. Motor cars are held in temporary leash at Aikmans road as if ready to start In the Trotting Cup; then the race is on at 50 miles an hour. The pedestrian looks both ways and, when clear, commences to cross, but the speeds are so great that he is unable to complete the crossing before the cars are on him. Not sp, uor even one traffic inspector. The council daily complacently carries a grave responsibility. Can something be done to check this mad and thoughtless racing?— Yours, etc., FRIGHTENED.
