Alleged Murder Of African
(Rec. 11 p.m.) NAIROBI, Nov. 11. Peter Harold Richard Poole, a 28-year-old British electrical engineer, was committed for trial today on a charge of killing an African houseboy.
Poole, who came to Kenya several years ago, reserved - his defence, and was remanded in custody by the Nairobi Magistrate. The charge against Poole alleges that he shot Kawame Musunge in a Nairobi suburban road on October 12. In a statement read in Court today. Poole said he fired in selfdefence. The statement said Poole was in his house when he saw an African throwing stones over his fence Poole called on his dogs to get the man, who rode off on a bicycle. In the statement, Poole said he caught up with the African, who theatened him and his dogs with stones. Poole said he had taken a pistol with him from the house and he pointed it at the African. “I fired one shot to strike his legs. He drew back his arm in a further attempt to throw a stone. I fired again. I meant to stop him. He dropped his arm and made some noises unintelligible to me. . . the statement said.
