POLICY ON DEFENCE
Speeches Will Be Censored
N.Z Press Association—Copyright i LONDON, November 11. The new Defence Minister (Mr Harold Watkinson) will in future censor all speeches by service officers to see that they conform to the Government policy on defence, the “News Chronicle” said today. He made this clear in the House of Commons yesterday by implication, the newspaper said. The trouble was started by a lecture by the Controller of Munitions (Sir John Cowley) who told the United Services Institution that Britain’s reliance on the Hbomb was “suicide.” The speech was passed under the impression it was to be given in private, but it should have been shown to Mr Watkinson, who was taken aback and angered by the remarks in it.
