DUNEDIN, October 12. Chinese in New Zealand had the great benefit of two heritages • —the Christian and the Con--1 fucian —said the Consul General r of the Republic of China, Mr ? Daniel Yu Tang Lfiw, in a mess sage to the twelfth annual Chin- " ese sports tournament held in • Dunedin. 1 “As Chinese living in a free democratic country, we have the i privilege of enjoying the free- - dom and democracy of New Zea--1 land.” he said. “But we also have the serious • responsibility of putting that free--3 dom and democracy to proper 1 use. For. like our bodies which thrive when we use our muscles. ° so will our nations be healthy and r strong if we use and exercise ] our spiritual and moral fibre. ' “The world todav is already , divided into the free and un- ” free. Millions on the Asian and , European continents have lost, or j are losing their freedom. They . can no longer make the decision ; to choose what is right. They g cannot say ‘I will live and think straight and follow God's leadership.’ = “We Chinese living abroad have the great benefit of two rich ine heritances, the Christian and the f Confucian. In both, the spiritual t and moral foundations have proi duced the beauty and strength of i cultural arts and social institutions. Today, these are under a attack everywhere. Resistance e and victory depend upon our- ’. selves.”
