N.Z. PLAY ON B.B.C. TELEVISION
“Should Make Good Impact” (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, October 11. “It is a tremendously good play—very powerful.” said Mr John Jacobs, who is producing “The Pohutakawa Tree,” by the Wellington dramatic critic, Mr Bruce Mason, for 8.8. C. television. It will be shown on October 18. “It is something different, and I think it will make a good impact. This is the first time a New Zealand play of any standing has been staged by the 8.8. C., and it is certainly well up to the calibre of several Australian successes here,” he said. Hira Tauwhare, who took the leading role of a Maori mother when the play was produced in the Dominion by the New Zealand Players, and who arrived in London three months ago, is again in the lead. She will be supported by a number of New Zealanders, who include Redmond Phillips, Terence Bayler, Bridget Armstrong, and Leslie Jackson, and some Australians.
