MOTHER AND CHILD CONTEST
Runanga Woman’s Win “The Pres*" Special Service NAPIER, October 11. Mrs Beverley Bell and her three and a half year-old daughter, Allison, of Runanga, West Coast, have won the national mother-and-child contest. Mrs Bell, who fainted on arrival at Napier 10 days ago, was declared the winner at the Napier Centennial Industries Exhibition and Wool Fair contest, having beaten 140 applicants. “Yes, it certainly was a happy ending,” laughed Mrs Bell. “W’e had an awful air trip from Palmerston North to Napier. Allison was sick and I was too busy looking after her to be sick myself. And then when we stepped off the plane and all that excitement . . . well, I just keeled over.”
Mrs Bell has two children, Allison, and Stephen, who is 16 months. Before she married she did a little fashion modelling in Grey mouth. The announcement of the award brought a happy smile to mother and a big grin to Allison. “What did Allison want for a prize?" asked the man. “A dolly on a stick,” promptly replied Allison, “No, two dollies on sticks —one for Stephen, too.”
