League UPSET IN AUCKLAND FINAL
Ellerslie Beats Western United, 9-7 (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 4. Ellerslie produced a major upset in the Auckland Rugby League champion of champions final at Carlaw Park on Saturday, beating Western United by 9 points to 7 Western United is the team which beat the Australian champions. St. George, a fortnight ago Cyril Eastlake, captain of Ellerslie, announced his retirement at the end of the game yesterday. For Ellerslie. A. Faulkner scored « try ano C A. Eastlake kicked three penalty goals. The try for Western United was scored by D. Moselen, who also kicked two penaltv goals. The half-time score was 4-4.
Australians Win At Oldham
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 3. The Kangaroos scored their best victory to date when they beat Oldham by 25 points to 14 this afternoon at Oldham, after leading 12-7 at half-time. It was a fiercely-fought battle between two fiery packs of forwards, who twice were embroiled in punching bouts. On the second occasion, a minute before full-time, the half-back B. Muir and his opposite number, F. Pitchford, were sent off the field by the referee.
