Psychiatric Wards In General Hospitals
Sir, —Other parts of the world are awakening to the need for early diagnosis and treatment of mental illness and emotional disturbance and for psycho-somatic medicine in general hospitals. Professor W. H. Trethowan, professor of psychiatry at Sydney University, said two years ago: “We seriously need—and I cannot give this sufficient emphasis—more and better facilities for the treatment of psychiatric patients within our general hospitals. The fact that so little provision of this kind exists continues to amaze me. A great many patients will respond much more quickly if treatment is begun earlier.”— Yours, etc.. FORMER PATIENT. October 2, 1959.
