ROADS BILL

S.L Local Bodies’ Views (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, October 1. When the president of the South Island Local Bodies' Association (Mr G .A. Harris) vacated the chair to allow discussion on the National Roads Amendment Bill at the annual conference of the association, the following motion was carried:— “That in view of the doubt which is apparent in regard to the intention of the National Roads Amendment Bill, and the farreaching effects of the amendments to existing practice contained therein, this conference is of opinion that it should be referred to a committee of the House of Representatives in order that all those affected may have an opportunity of presenting their views.”

The motion was carried on a show of hands, with 31 for and 10 against. A telegram will be sent to the Minister of Works (Mr Watt). Mr W. S. Crotty (Geraldine) proposed the motion which was seconded by Mr J. C. Mackenzie.
