TRADE WITH FRANCE

Position Criticised In House (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. New Zealand’s balance of trade with France was a matter for “grave concern,” said Mr G. A. Walsh (Opposition, Tauranga) in the House of Representatives today. Mr Walsh said New Zealand imported only 10 per cent, of the value of the goods France bought from the Dominion. “We cannot carry on like this,” he said. “New Zealand is not being fair to expect other countries to go on trading with us and taking goods on this basis. How are we going to get on with our promotion and expansion of trade if we carry on a return trade like this?”
