“SURVIVAL” IMPORT LICENCES Mr Boord’s Claim

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 2. A total of 150 “survival” licences had been issued in the first year to enable firms to keep in existence and he had not heard of any one case where a firm had ceased operations after it had received the licence, the Minister of Customs (Mr Boord) said in the House of Representatives today. He was replying to Mr N. L. Shelton (Opposition, Rangitikei) during a discussion on the vote in the Estimates for the Customs Department. Mr Boord said since increases had been made in allocations a “tremendous” number of “survival” licence holders had obtained more and had advanced well away from the point at which they might have gone under.
