Herbert Peak, almost directly behind Diamond Harbour, is the higher of the two. at 3014 feet Mount Herbert, inland from Charteris Bay, is 2805 feet. Both peaks are presumably named after Sir Sidnev Herbert P„ r jl ,sh Secr eta r y at War in the 1840 s and 50's. He was a friend of John Robert Godley, founder of Canterbury.
