Indians Move On Outpost

(Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW DELHI, Sept. 4.

Indian forces are today understood to be moving to forward areas of the Subansi ri division of the Northeast Frontier Agency in a bid to retake the Longju outpost from the Chinese. Well-informed sources in New Delhi said the Indian troops have been ordered to reoccupy the post without the use of arms and to open fire only in self-defence.

Communist China has sent India a Note denying that she has committed aggression against Indian territory, the Prime Minister (Mr Nehru) told Parliament today. Mr Nehru said the Chinese Note was a reply to an Indian protest sent last week after incidents on the frontier. The Press Trust of India has reported Chinese Communist infiltrations in three areas of Ladakh in Kashmir and the occupation of the Indian enclave of Minsar, 100 miles inside Tibet. Reporting from Srinagar, the Kashmir capital, the Press Trust said the Chinese were using the Tibetan towns of Rudok and Gartok as bases and had built an extensive road network between Rudok and territories adjoining the borders of Ladakh. Official sources, commenting on a reported statement by the United Nations Secretary-General (Mr Dag Hammarskjold) that the world organisation would try to assist in solving the dispute if called upon, said that India would not take the matter to the United Nations.
