Milking Shorthorn Association

Since Milking Shorthorns had been included on the list of bulls from which it was possible to obtain semen from the Dairy Board’s artificial breeding centre at Newstead there had been a strong demand for it, said a report of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association.

The meeting was told that the demand was such that the breed bulls at Newstead. including three merit sires and two sons of these, had been augmented by a Pinedale bull bought at auction and the acquisition of further bulls was being considered. A considerable number of ampules of semen from the leading English bull on contemporary comparison +143 Histon Dairy Premier had come to hand and would be available to members of the branch, the report said.
