Woman Alleged To Have Pirated Paris Fashions

(N.Z. Press Association—Copt/riyht)

PARIS. August 25. An Austrian woman journalist. Mrs Maria Kastner-Srul ar, aged 37. has been detained by Paris police as a result of complaints by Paris fashion houses that their models had been fraudulently copied. They said the Paris Fashion House Syndicate had complained that “pirated" copies of their exclusive models were being produced in the United States sometimes even before they had sold them in Paris. Sketches of exclusive Paris models were found in a police search of her room in a hotel on the Champs-Elysees. Tonight the vice-president of the Paris Fashion House Syndicate (Mr Daniel Gorin) said the woman was connected with an American concern which, he alleged, had cost French fashion houses millions of francs in recent years. He issued a written press statement alleging that Mrs Kastner had been sending sketches of exclusive fashion models, including those by Christian Dior, Nina Ricci and Gres, to an American firm.

I Mr Gorin also alleged that when Mrs Kastner was detained, she was in the process of sending to an Austrian address sketches from collections of the autumn and winter collections which she had attended.
