Princess Alexandra

Sir, —Our cousins across the Tasman are basking not only in their own sunshine but in the warm smile of a very gracious young lady. Traditionally a practical people (some might say “hard-boiled”) the Australians are lucky indeed to have such a visitor as Princess Alexandra of Kent. In innumerable ways this warm-hearted member of our Royal Family is (and this is no conventional “cliche”) winning all hearts. Those planners of the tour who decided to make it one with a difference have certainly succeeded beyond their fondest hopes. What a pity that the smiling princess cannot visit New Zealand. —Yours, etc., THE SUNSHINE STATE. August 26, 1959.
