WATER SPORTS CLUB
Permission For
Ski Jump
The Christchurch Water Sports Club has been granted permission by the Kaiapoi Borough Council for the mooring of a water ski jump in the Brooklands Lagoon. At the club's annual meeting last evening, the president (Mt Reg. Smith) said the council’s permission marked another step forward in the progress of water skl-ing in tne province. In a letter to tne club, the Kaiapoi Borough Council drew attention to two conditions laid down by the harbourmaster. They are that act.vtties of the club do not interfere with shipping, and that tree stumps, snags, etc., removed from the lagoon be placed well clear of the high water hiark The council disclaimed any liability resulting from the carelessness or negligence of the club in tne area under the control of the council.
"Last season was a poor one for water ski-ing. with much bad weather and tne high price of petrol and scarcity of outboard motors adversely affecting the sport.” said Mr Smith in h.s annual report. "There are now five ski-ing lanes in Lyttelton Harbour and one at Akaroa, as well as the Brooklands lagoon.” A New Zealand Water Ski Association had been formed with headquarters in Auckland, and the first national water ski championships would be held at Picton on January 8 and 9. said Mr Smith.
