LATIMER SQUARE INCIDENT
Mystery Of A Bathtub “There is a bathtub in Latimer square and there is a drunk man trying to do a strip-tease act in it.” This telephone message was received at the watchhouse at the Central Police Station at 9.15 p.m. yesterday from a nearby resident.
Constable T. W. Millar left almost immediately in a patrol car for Latimer square. The square was deserted, but in the middle of the southern section of the square between Worcester and Hereford streets he found a light tin bath. Scattered around the bath, which was close to a light standard, were articles of women’s clothing, including a skirt, brassiere, and slip. There was also an alarm clock with a broken face, but it was still working. Constable Millar gathered up the clothing, which had obviously seen better days, and took it to the police station, where it is awaiting a claimant. The bathtub, too big to take in the patrol car, was still in the square late last evening. Mr A. J. Proffitt, who was working at the garage at the corner of Latimer square and Worcester street, said last evening that the first thing he knew about the incident was when he was approached by the police.
