Further Remand Granted

(New Zealand Pte» As.tocturtoni NAPIER, July 27. A man and a youth were this morning remanded in custody for a week after they had appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at Napier today, on charges of discharging a firearm at a police constable with intent to prevent their lawful apprehension at Wairoa on July 23. Mr W. A. Harlow, S.M., was on the Bench.

Colin Alister Baynes, aged 33. a labourer, and Daniel O’Connor, aged 18, of no fixed abode, were represented by Mr I. Heath. Senior-Sergeant A. Reid said Bayne and O’Connor were arrested at Taupunga on Saturday. They had appeared in the Wairoa Police Court and had been remanded to appear in the Napier Magistrate’s Court today. Asking for a further remand. Sergeant Reid said investigations into other offences throughout the country were proceeding. Mr Heath made no objection to the remand, which was granted by the Magistrate.
