SOFT SOAP FOR THE BUCKET BRIGADE
One of the most diverting items of news in recent weeks was the announcement that in Sweden a school for charwomen had been established. Moreover, there is to be a course in psychology for the charwomen’s inspectors, so that they will be able to establish properly harmonious relations with the charwomen.
thrill of pride for some young wife to win her way through to be crowned Queen of the Soapsuds. If ploughmen can have their international contests, why not charwomen? Even failure to win the world title could still very easily lead to an offer of a scholarship at an American university.
There is no reason why this challenge from Sweden should go unanswered. The element of competition would do much. Charwomen’s championships, on a district basis, with a grand final on the Auckland harbour bridge, would arouse interest. What a

Such an advertisement would win attention, but so do the hundreds which appear each day in the classified columns of “The Press.” They give remarkably swift and satisfying service to a public which has long since learnt their extreme value.
